Biology is a three-year, English-taught Bachelor's programme at the Faculty of Science of the Radboud University. In the first part of the programme, you get a general introduction to the field of biology and medical biology. In the second part, you choose your own learning trajectory to deepen your knowledge.

During the general phase, you will take courses from all learning trajectories. This will help you to get an idea which trajectory will be most interesting for you. In the second part of the Bachelor's programme Biology you design your own study profile. You can choose courses from seven learning trajectories within biology and medical biology.

  1. Ecology. Plant and animal ecology, get insight in the key biotic and abiotic drivers of populations.
  2. Environment and Sustainability. Assess environmental problems and evaluate sustainable solutions.
  3. Microbiology. Study microorganisms and viruses from genes to ecosystems.
  4. Physiology and Adaptation. Plant and animal physiological functions in relation to organism and environment.
  5. Functional Genomics. Using knowledge gained through genomics to improve health and environment.
  6. Human Biology. Molecular and cellular bases of biological processes underlying health and disease.
  7. Neurobiology. Brain and behaviour, cognitive systems, neurons & synapses, neurodevelopment, and medical neurobiology.

  • At RU students have to really like to do research, to write and to analyze, because most of the assignments are written.
  • RU has free writing classes at which students can attend if they struggle with academic writing (most of the students attends them).
  • Students mostly can learn Dutch for free and get 50% discount to learn other languages like Spanish, Chinese or other 15 languages.
  • Easy to find a job as a student – lots of shops, bars, restaurants. Student who gave me a tour said all his friends found a job in 2-3 months.


After your studies

The field of biology is wide and gives you lots of choices on the job market. Work as a researcher, teacher, consultant, policymaker, or manager in a profit or non-profit organisation. The programme provides you with a huge number of opportunities to discover your strengths and to explore all career fields.
