Do you want to speak and write English at 'near-native' level? After completing our part-time Teacher Education in English Master programme, the English language won't hold any secrets for you! Moreover, you'll have acquired a critical approach to education and will be full of ideas on how to improve it.

This master programme prepares you to teach English language and literature to the higher classes of Dutch higher secondary and tertiary education (HAVO, VWO and HBO in Dutch). Instead of spending a great deal of time in-class, you will be spending most of your time in front of it, teaching teens and young adults at the school where you work. The combination of one day a week at HU, and the rest of the week actually teaching makes for an ideal combination.

English language requirements

You need proven English skills at CEFR level C2.

Important requirements

To enter the programme you need to have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education in English, or

  • A Bachelor's degree in English Language and Culture combined with an Education Minor.

Other requirements

Before your admission, you will have a personal interview with an intake coordinator. Together, you will discuss what you can expect of the programme, your motivation, ambitions and experience in order to design your personal Learning Plan. This will give you a good idea about the possibilities this master programme offers you, and whether it is a good fit.
