Embedded Systems Engineering

Are you excited about intelligent electronic devices? Explore the digital world and learn how to develop both hardware and software for smart systems. Digital electronics are everywhere and essential to our society. Help build the future and become an Embedded Systems Engineer!
This degree gives you a thorough technical grounding in embedded systems engineering. At the same time, you constantly apply your theoretical knowledge in projects. Projects like developing an autonomous vehicle. Developing a climate controller for an incubator. Or developing an interface for a coffee machine.
The program for Embedded Systems Engineering is technology driven. You learn to keep up with the latest developments. And equally important: you put it into practice. From the very start of the program. So when you graduate you’re an engineer with the right experience.
This degree program trains you to become an embedded systems engineer. You get all the fundamental theories. Then you put them into practice in projects. Real-life engineering projects that solve actual issues in the professional field.
Throughout your studies, you work with your classmates in project teams. You also get the chance to work with professionals from the field.
For Electronic and Electrical Engineering, you need prior knowledge in a few areas. So your secondary education certificate needs to show satisfactory grades in these subjects:
English
Physics
Mathematics
What types of mathematics and physics can you expect in the 1st year?
Mathematics
A brief review of secondary school material (Dutch HAVO):
Solving equations
Logarithmic and exponential functions
Trigonometric functions
Differentiating
New material:
Complex numbers
Vector calculation
Integrating
Introduction to differential equations
Separation of variables
Numeral systems (binary, hexadecimal)
Physics
Electrical networks
With a bachelor degree in Embedded Systems Engineering you can find jobs in the commercial and public sector. For example, in product manufacturing, at research institutes or with partners in the field of engineering.
Here are some embedded systems engineering jobs you could pursue:
- SOFTWARE/HARDWARE DEVELOPER. As a software/hardware developer, you develop innovative electronic products. More specifically, the electronic software and hardware for these products. You do this using microcontrollers. Customer requirements and specifications are crucial. Your teammates are other engineers and professionals from other disciplines.
- SERVICE ENGINEER. As a service engineer, you solve problems on-site and propose and implement technical improvements to prevent future failures. Is there a malfunction, for example in a wind farm? As a service engineer you professionally solve the problem on site. And you also proactively propose technical improvements.
- TECHNICAL ADVISOR. As a technical advisor you "interpret" data, making it usable for others. For example, the police want to request camera images of a particular time or location. Or filter specific information from camera images. Both require different ways of processing data. Your advisory and programming skills make it all possible.
