What can you study in English?
LUT offers 11 English-taught Bachelor’s programs in technology and business, including Software and Systems Engineering, Computational Science and Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Digital Business and Sustainable International Business. After the Bachelor’s you can continue directly into one of LUT’s 30+ English-taught Master’s programs.
Lappeenranta and Lahti – lakeside student life
The main campus is in Lappeenranta, a relaxed city on the shore of Lake Saimaa, Finland’s largest lake – students swim and go to the beach sauna in summer and skate on the lake in winter. The second campus is in Lahti, a sporty design city just one hour from Helsinki by train. Both are compact cities where everything is within cycling distance and living costs are far below capital-city level.

Entry qualification
- Transcript of Records – If you have not yet completed Secondary School, you must upload a transcript showing your current grades. You can find the transcript template here.
- Secondary School Leaving Certificate – If you have already completed Secondary School, you do not need to upload a separate transcript. Simply upload your Secondary School Leaving Certificate to the application.

English language requirements
You may not need to take IELTS or TOEFL. University usually allow you to prove your English proficiency in one of the following ways:
- TOEFL iBT*
- IELTS Academic
- A Cambridge English qualification
- A national English examination listed on your secondary school leaving certificate
- An English subject and grade on your secondary school leaving certificate that meet the university’s requirements
- Secondary education completed in English in a country or school qualification accepted by the university
- An International Baccalaureate (IB) or European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma

Master
Entry qualification
- ECTS transcript – If you are still completing your Bachelor’s degree, upload an ECTS transcript showing the subjects you have studied, your grades, and the number of credits awarded. Your Bachelor’s diploma must be uploaded later, as soon as you receive it.
- Bachelor’s diploma – If you have already graduated, upload your Bachelor’s diploma. A separate ECTS transcript is not required.
Note: Your Bachelor’s degree must be in the same or a related field as the Master’s programme you are applying for. The university will check whether you have completed enough relevant subjects and ECTS credits.

English language requirements
Applicants have to prove their English language skills either by an internationally recognized language test or upon previous studies. Usually English language skills can be proved by the following documents:

Student housing for LUT students
Student housing in LUT’s campus cities is affordable and stress-free: there is no big deposit or advance rent, and the rent of a student apartment includes internet, sauna turns, free laundry rooms and shared common spaces. Apartments are located near the campus or along good transport connections.
The golden rule in Finland: apply for an apartment as soon as you accept your study place – applications are processed in the order they arrive.
Where to apply for housing
LUT directs its students to these official providers:
- Lappeenranta:LOAS – Lappeenranta Student Housing Foundation – home to more than 3,000 students. Applications are accepted year-round and processed in order of arrival. As an alternative, the city-owned company Aspakoti also rents to students.
- Lahti:Lahden Talot – over 7,000 apartments across the city. You can apply through the English site even before you have a Finnish ID; the application stays valid for 3 months.
Apartment types and prices
Students typically choose between a room in a shared apartment (2–3 students, each with an own lockable room), a studio, or a one-bedroom apartment. Furnished rooms with a bed, desk, chair, bookshelf and wardrobe are also available – convenient if you arrive with just a suitcase.
