Artevelde University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Flanders, located in Ghent – one of Belgium’s most beloved student cities. What can you study in English?
Artevelde offers English-taught Bachelor’s programs in the field of business, communication and media, including International Business Management, International Communication Management, International Graphic and Digital Media, International Journalism and International Organisation and Management. Some programs also offer a February intake, so you can start your studies in the spring as well.

Ghent – a city made for students
Ghent is often called Belgium’s best student city: medieval towers and canals, a huge student community, festivals, and everything within cycling distance. At the same time, Brussels is only about 30 minutes away by train, and cities like Bruges, Antwerp, Paris, Amsterdam and London are easy weekend trips.

Housing at Artevelde – university rooms in the centre of Ghent
Artevelde is one of the few Belgian universities of applied sciences with its own student housing. The university runs five student houses in the heart of Ghent (Sint-Annahuis, Poorthuis, Bagattenhuis, Jeruzalemhuis and Savaanhuis) and also offers rooms in the modern Ter Plaeten UpKot residence, reserved for international degree students. All houses are close to the campuses, so you can walk or cycle everywhere.
Rooms come with a bed, desk, wardrobe, washbasin, WiFi and a fridge, and fire insurance is automatically covered through the university. As a new international degree student you can rent a university room for your first academic year – this protects you from housing scams and gives you a safe start. After the first year, finding a room on the private market is much easier once you are already living in Ghent.
Prices and how to apply
For the 2026–2027 academic year, single rooms in the university houses cost about €345–€600 per month, plus a fixed fee of €110 per month that covers everything: electricity, heating, water, internet and cleaning – with no surprise bills at the end. Applications for university housing open at the end of April; after the first application round, rooms are given on a first-come, first-served basis, so apply as early as possible. When a room is offered, you sign the contract and pay a deposit of €600 plus one month of rent.
Private market in Ghent
If you prefer the private market or do not get a university room, Artevelde recommends the city’s official student housing database Kot@Gent. On the private market, a standard student room in Ghent costs on average about €544 per month and a studio about €701 per month (all-inclusive). The deposit is maximum two months of rent. Never pay anything before you have a signed contract – the university’s Housing Department (housing@arteveldehs.be) can check offers and warn you about fraud.
