Society is confronted by a variety of overlapping societal and political challenges. One is the rise of new digital technologies. It offers solutions to some existing challenges such as population ageing but also poses new ones, such as digital exclusion. We need bold and insightful decision-makers who can critically evaluate these challenges from different theoretical perspectives and analyse empirical data to develop and inform their decisions. The Master’s Programme in Digital Social Science prepares you to be such a decision-maker across various sectors of society. 

This master's programme will expose you to theories to help you understand and evaluate current and future challenges involving new digital technologies. You will learn to use social sciences research methodology, various data sources, and digital tools to explore and analyse these challenges. The programme also enables you to apply your knowledge and skills beyond the classroom. 

The Master’s Programme in Digital Social Sciences gives you the skills and confidence to make informed, evidence-based decisions for tackling current and future problems.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is for you if you are deeply interested in understanding and tackling societal and political challenges from different theoretical perspectives and through a variety of research methods. This programme prepares you to make informed, evidence-based decisions to address current and future issues. It also offers you opportunities to acquire digital skills that can further support evidence-based decision-making.

In addition, you have

  • preferably a social science or business degree, but also other degrees are accepted;
  • a curiosity about the multifaceted challenges that our societies face and a desire to solve complex problems;
  • an interest in understanding the current and future challenges that our societies face from different perspectives.

To be eligible to apply, you must have completed the following studies by the application deadline:

  • 24 ECTS credits of studies supportive of Digital Social Science

Studies supportive of Digital Social Science may include:

  • Social Sciences and Humanities, for example:
    Political Economy, Economics, Political Science, Social Psychology, Sociology, Administrative Sciences, Philosophy, History, Anthropology, Human Geography, Communication Sciences, Media Studies
