I first started thinking about leaving my home country in the tenth year of Secondary School, although I only became completely certain that I wanted to study abroad during my final year.
I chose the Netherlands because I had already visited the country several times and participated in different projects there. I also knew several people who had been studying in different Dutch cities for some time.
Because of these previous experiences, the Netherlands did not feel completely unfamiliar. Still, moving there alone was a major decision, and I remember feeling a great deal of anxiety before leaving.
In the end, everything worked out much better than I had feared.
One of the most important things future students should do is begin searching for accommodation as early as possible. Finding a suitable place can take time, and arranging it in advance removes a significant amount of stress from the moving process.
Living independently in another country is not as difficult as it may appear before you leave. At first, you need to adjust to managing your own routine, responsibilities, and everyday decisions.
However, you gradually become more confident and realise that you are capable of solving far more problems on your own than you expected.
The things that seemed frightening from home quickly became part of normal everyday life.
To anyone still wondering whether studying abroad is the right decision, I would always recommend giving it a chance.
You are not trapped in the country forever. If the experience does not suit you, you can return home. But even then, you will have tried something new, learned more about yourself, and gained experiences that you would not have had otherwise.
Choosing to study abroad does not require you to know exactly how the entire journey will unfold. You simply need enough courage to take the first step.
Even if you later choose a different path, you are unlikely to regret giving yourself the opportunity to try.
