I decided that I wanted to study abroad when I was only in sixth grade. At that time, I had no idea which country I would choose—I only knew one thing: after finishing school, I wanted to continue my education abroad.
As graduation got closer, I started thinking more seriously about what I wanted to study. At first, I was mainly considering universities in the UK, but I also became interested in Denmark and the Netherlands.
Everything became much clearer after joining Kastu's university tours. Visiting different campuses, seeing the learning environment in person, and talking to current students helped me compare my options and imagine what my future could look like. By the end of the trip, I had made my decision.
I chose to study Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Sønderborg.
One of the first things I noticed after arriving was how small the city is. If you're looking for a busy nightlife or lots of concerts and events, Sønderborg might not be the perfect place. But if you enjoy building things, working on technical projects, and learning by doing, it's an excellent choice.
The university offers well-equipped laboratories that are available to students, making it a great environment for anyone interested in engineering, innovation, or DIY projects. Having access to these facilities has allowed me to experiment, improve my practical skills, and apply what I learn in class.
The biggest challenge wasn't the university itself—it was learning to live independently. Moving to another country means taking responsibility for everything, from cooking and budgeting to managing your own time. At first, it can feel overwhelming, but it also helps you grow much faster as a person.
If you're still unsure whether studying abroad is the right choice, my advice is simple: visit the universities before making your decision.
That's exactly what helped me. The trip not only introduced me to my future university but also allowed me to meet new friends and gave me the confidence to choose the path that was right for me.
Looking back today, I'm glad I took that first step—it led me exactly where I wanted to be.
