I am currently a third-year Creative Business student at BUas. I grew up in Łódź, Poland, where I attended Emilia Sczaniecka Secondary School and completed the International Baccalaureate programme in 2022.
BUas was my dream university because of its strongly practical approach to education.
At many universities, students gain a great deal of theoretical knowledge but have relatively few opportunities to apply it. I wanted to avoid studying only to remember information for an exam. I wanted to learn by creating, experimenting, and working on practical assignments.
Creative Business was also one of the few programmes I found that offered such a varied combination of subjects. It connects the foundations of traditional business with media, production, and other creative fields.
This was exactly what I was looking for. I did not want to limit myself to only one area. I wanted a programme that would allow me to understand both the commercial and creative sides of the industry and explore different career possibilities.
The university’s location also influenced my decision. Breda is a relatively small but lively and atmospheric city. For an international student, living in a smaller community can make it much easier to meet people and build closer relationships.
You do not feel lost in an enormous city. You start recognising familiar faces, finding your favourite places, and becoming part of the student community much faster.
My studies usually take up five days a week, but this schedule already includes time for independent work. Because I can complete most of my academic responsibilities during the week, I do not usually need to spend my weekends studying.
This balance gives me enough time to meet friends, relax, work, and develop interests outside university. For me, this is an important part of a positive student experience. University should help you grow academically, but it should not prevent you from having a life beyond your assignments.
The people I have met have been very open and interested in making new connections, especially with international students. This made adapting to a new country much easier.
Being part of an international community also means constantly hearing different perspectives and learning about other cultures. Some of the most valuable lessons happen outside the classroom through conversations, friendships, and shared experiences.
Alongside my studies, I also work. Since arriving in the Netherlands, I have had two part-time jobs, and in both cases, speaking English was completely sufficient.
This helped me become more independent, gain professional experience, and feel more confident about building my life abroad.
Breda itself is a wonderful student city. It offers plenty of cultural activities, entertainment, green spaces, and beautiful architecture. There is always something to do, but the city still feels comfortable and welcoming rather than overwhelming.
Looking back, choosing BUas gave me exactly the kind of experience I had hoped for: practical education, creative freedom, an international environment, and enough balance to enjoy student life fully.
Creative Business has allowed me to explore different industries without giving up either my business interests or my creative side. At the same time, living in Breda has helped me build friendships, gain work experience, and become more independent.
For students looking for more than purely theoretical education, studying abroad can offer the chance to combine academic knowledge with real experience.
Sometimes the right university is not only the place where you study. It is the place where you begin creating the life and career you truly want.
