IRIO in Groningen is a multidisciplinary English-taught degree programme in which you explore political questions on an international level. You focus on the place of politics, history, economics and law in international relations but also the role of international organizations. You also learn or improve your proficiency in a modern foreign language and choose a minor that fits your profile.

If you choose IRIO in Groningen, you choose:

In IRIO programme you will also study a language: you can either choose to start Chinese, Dutch, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish or choose to improve your English, French or German.

The main emphasis is on the place of politics, history, economics and law in international relations but also the crucial role of international organizations. Attention is paid to research skills, language training, methodologies, historical context and theory. Entry qualification
  • Transcript of Records – If you have not yet completed Secondary School, you must upload a transcript showing your current grades. You can find the transcript template here.
  • Secondary School Leaving Certificate – If you have already completed Secondary School, you do not need to upload a separate transcript. Simply upload your Secondary School Leaving Certificate to the application.

An additional documents, Statement of Education / Course description, may be required depending on the programme you apply for at this university.

If any document is required, it will appear in the Documents section of the Kastu application form once you start your application.

English language requirements

You may not need to take IELTS or TOEFL. University usually allow you to prove your English proficiency in one of the following ways:
