This Masters course deals with sustainable and renewable energy systems and how to apply these successfully to meet future energy requirements. The course has an applied technical approach, using engineering to deal with energy challenges. Students explore how energy systems can be used to work more efficiently. They look at how to optimise energy systems across multiple pathways and scales, increase reliability, reduce cost and minimise the environmental impact of our energy systems.

Students of the HAN Masters courses in Automotive Systems and Control Systems Engineering can participate in the development of self-driving cars, also known as autonomous cars. Professor Frans Tillema of HAN Automotive Research is conducting research into intelligent mobility. Masters students are assisting in this research, namely in the area of advanced mobility. Sustainable Energy research group

Students and lecturers introduce you to the Master in Sustainable Energy. Find out what you can learn and get acquainted with the interesting research and innovation projects. Knowledge and techniques from fundamental research are applied in an industrial environment and are implemented into energy systems. Employees of the Research Group are actively involved in the curriculum by teaching theory, but also through their involvement in research projects. They are tutors and coaches for practical assignments and projects, including the Master thesis project.

Profession

The sustainable energy engineer will have an active role in the transition towards a sustainable energy system. He will work on the development of technology, models and smart control of sustainable systems for energy generation, storage or distribution at local, regional or (inter)national level. He may be employed by SME’s, grid operators, energy providers or governments to develop innovative energy systems or have a role towards maintaining the energy balance on an (inter)national scale.

Your future

The HAN has a broad network of energy companies, from grid operators to energy providers to SME’s developing new technology. Industries and companies associated with the HAN and this programme acknowledge the need for Sustainable Energy System Engineers at Master level. The content of this Master programme is based on our constant interactions with our industrial partners and our applied research focuses on their needs and interests.
