As an AD Tourism Management student, you'll work in the field from day one and discover how your ideas can impact tourism organisations.
Learning by doing
The associate degree in Tourism Management puts theory straight into practice. Right from the first year, you'll work on real projects for tourism businesses and develop your skills in guest experience, storytelling and value creation for both guests and organisations. For instance, in the first semester, you'll work on:
Designing an international trip taking in tourism hotspots
Organising excursions and developing new experiences
Reaching different target groups using appropriate online content
Each of these projects focuses on how you make tourism attractive whilst also having a positive and sustainable impact on the destination. You'll grow from an inquisitive explorer into a professional that sees opportunities to turn ideas into concrete plans.
Why study AD Tourism Management?
During the space of just two years, you'll develop into a professional ready for a career in tourism. You’ll learn how to collaborate, recognise opportunities and develop projects from start to finish. 2 years or 4 years – you choose
For the 2-year Tourism Management Associate degree at NHL Stenden, there is a clear continuation route. After completing the Associate degree, students can continue with the Tourism Management Bachelor at NHL Stenden from the 3rd year.
This means the full study route can be: 2 years Associate degree + 2 years Bachelor = Bachelor degree
Students can also stop after the first 2 years and graduate with the Associate degree, which is already a recognised higher education qualification.
Therefore, this programme gives students two options after two years:
Graduate with an Associate degree and start working, or
Continue for another 2 years and obtain a Bachelor degree.
- Transcript of Records – If you have not yet completed Secondary School, you must upload a transcript showing your current grades. You can find the transcript template here.
- Secondary School Leaving Certificate – If you have already completed Secondary School, you do not need to upload a separate transcript. Simply upload your Secondary School Leaving Certificate to the application.
Depending on the programme, the following may be required as part of the application process:
- CV/Resume in English
- Motivation Letter in English

You may not need to take IELTS or TOEFL. University usually allow you to prove your English proficiency in one of the following ways:
- TOEFL iBT*
- IELTS Academic
- A Cambridge English qualification
- A national English examination listed on your secondary school leaving certificate
- An English subject and grade on your secondary school leaving certificate that meet the university’s requirements
- Secondary education completed in English in a country or school qualification accepted by the university
- An International Baccalaureate (IB) or European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma

With your associate degree in Tourism Management, you can immediately start working in various operational and coordination positions within the tourism industry. You can advise clients, develop new tourism products and create appealing marketing content. You can also organise travel, excursions and events and create memorable visitor experiences.
This practical programme will set you up to work in a wide range of organisations, from tour operators and travel agents to holiday and theme parks, destination management and marketing bureaus, airlines and governmental organisations. You can also follow-up your associate degree with a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management and further develop your career in tourism.
You could for instance work as:
- Travel product developer for a travel organisation
- Marketing and communications specialist for a holiday park
- Assistant park manager for a holiday park
- Sales assistant or operations coordinator for a theme park
- Social media specialist for a destination marketing organisation
- Guest experience coordinator and client liaison on a campsite
