Linköping University – a top 2% world university

Studies built on real-world problems
LiU offers more than 30 international programs taught fully in English. Teaching is based on problem-based learning – instead of only memorising theory, you solve real problems, often together with companies. Many of your teachers are active researchers, and students can even join ongoing research projects during their studies.
Two student cities, one university
LiU's main campuses are in Linköping and Norrköping, two friendly cities in eastern Sweden connected by a free campus bus for students. Linköping was the first Swedish city to win the European Capital of Innovation Award (2023). Both cities are affordable, safe and full of students – with parties, sports and Sweden's largest welcome reception for new students, which even includes a concert.

Entry qualification
- Transcript of Records – If you have not yet completed Secondary School, you must upload a transcript showing your current grades. You can find the transcript template here.
- Secondary School Leaving Certificate – If you have already completed Secondary School, you do not need to upload a separate transcript. Simply upload your Secondary School Leaving Certificate to the application.

English language requirements
You may not need to take IELTS or TOEFL. University usually allow you to prove your English proficiency in one of the following ways:
- TOEFL iBT*
- IELTS Academic
- A Cambridge English qualification
- A national English examination listed on your secondary school leaving certificate
- An English subject and grade on your secondary school leaving certificate that meet the university’s requirements
- Secondary education completed in English in a country or school qualification accepted by the university
- An International Baccalaureate (IB) or European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma
- Other

Master
Entry qualification
- ECTS transcript – If you are still completing your Bachelor’s degree, upload an ECTS transcript showing the subjects you have studied, your grades, and the number of credits awarded. Your Bachelor’s diploma must be uploaded later, as soon as you receive it.
- Bachelor’s diploma – If you have already graduated, upload your Bachelor’s diploma. A separate ECTS transcript is not required.
Note: Your Bachelor’s degree must be in the same or a related field as the Master’s programme you are applying for. The university will check whether you have completed enough relevant subjects and ECTS credits.

English language requirements
Applicants have to prove their English language skills either by an internationally recognized language test or upon previous studies. Usually English language skills can be proved by the following documents:

Housing at LiU – start early and you will be fine
Linköping University does not give housing to degree students directly. Instead, you rent a room from student housing companies through an online queue system. The golden rule: register in the queues as early as possible – you collect one queue point per day, and more points mean better and cheaper rooms. Registration is free, and you can do it long before you are even admitted.
The good news: Linköping and Norrköping do not have the huge housing shortages of Stockholm or Gothenburg. Students who start early almost always find a good room before the semester begins.
Bonus: housing guarantee in Norrköping
If your program is at Campus Norrköping, you get a real bonus: the housing company Studentbo guarantees you accommodation if you are admitted to studies of at least two semesters. You can choose between your own apartment, a corridor room or a shared "combo" apartment – no queue stress at all.
