Chemical and process engineering
Chemical and process engineering applies chemistry, physics, and mathematics to develop technology. Chemical and process engineering is a good choice if you are interested in natural sciences, chemistry, or technology and want to address challenges related to sustainable production and the circular economy.
What will you learn in the programme?
The chemical and process engineering programme offers practical laboratory exercises and industrial-scale applications that teach you about design processes and equipment using modern simulation tools. In addition, you will gain experience in managing product development, operational tasks, process safety and quality control.
The core of the studies includes common chemical industry processes, especially separation methods and process design. You will start by studying the basics of chemistry, natural sciences, and technology and basic chemical and process engineering phenomena. You will learn to understand chemical reactions, changes in the state of substances, mixing and flows, and the most common analysis and measurement methods in process development.
The studies cover the role of chemical and process engineering in green energy production, energy storage, biomass and raw material utilisation, the recovery of metals and minerals, water purification, and food industry processes. The programme builds a strong foundation in natural sciences to create circular economy solutions and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources.
Degree structure and studies
Chemical and process engineering studies at LUT meet the needs of the professional world and teach both theory and practice. In addition to lectures, studies consist of calculation and simulation exercises and laboratory work. You will get acquainted with technical problem-solving, design, and development work. You will work in modern, industry-standard laboratories and investigate and report on phenomena in practice.
The studies focus particularly on project-based teamwork skills for the world of work. You will learn about matters such as information retrieval, engineering thinking, and problem-solving, which support your future work as an expert in chemical and process engineering.
