Visual Effects (VFX) - Digital Arts and Entertainment
Become an expert in Visual Effects
Visual Effects (VFX) is a major within the Bachelor of Digital Arts and Entertainment programme.
This programme teaches you the secrets behind creating VFX blockbusters and provides you with all the tools you need to create stunning visual effects.
From the start of the programme, you get a behind-the-scenes look. Analysing film magic begins with rotoscoping, tracking, matchmoving, and compositing. Later, you will delve into the green key studio or film on location with a green screen.
Right from the start you will build a strong foundation in mathematics and programming. Then, we make use of all the features of SideFx Houdini, a robust software package that is ideal for creating procedural 3D content and enables you to generate stunning scenes. You also learn about all possible scenarios in simulation: explosions, smoke, particles, fluids, cloth, muscles, and hair.
You will literally become the CGI photographer of a hyperrealistic 3D scene complemented with footage, 2.5D matte paintings, and set extensions. Techniques such as finishing and colour grading will be the final steps in this production process.
The composition of this curriculum is based on the current needs of the film industry. With your portfolio, you will be able to approach MPC, ILM, DNEG, The Mill, etc. Whether it's London or Montreal, the opportunities will be unlimited!
