Do you want to build software that goes beyond the screen and runs on the devices, machines and systems that keep the world around us running? In the Bachelor Applied Computer Science, you develop the knowledge and skills to design, program and deploy smart electronic systems.
The four-year Applied Computer Science programme at Hanze provides a strong technical foundation while allowing you to shape your own path, supported by personal guidance throughout. You progress from core fundamentals to specialisation and, finally, to real-world professional practice.
What will you be studying?
In the first two years, you build a strong foundation at the intersection of software and hardware. You develop your programming and technical skills while exploring topics such as computer systems, networks, cybersecurity, AI and machine learning. Through hands-on projects, you apply your knowledge to real-world challenges and prepare to specialise in the direction that suits you best.

- Transcript of Records – If you have not yet completed Secondary School, you must upload a transcript showing your current grades. You can find the transcript template here.
- Secondary School Leaving Certificate – If you have already completed Secondary School, you do not need to upload a separate transcript. Simply upload your Secondary School Leaving Certificate to the application.
Note: If you apply for admission to certain degree programmes, you may be invited to participate in a Study Check – a short assessment designed to help determine whether the programme is a good match for your interests, skills, and expectations.

You may not need to take IELTS or TOEFL. University usually allow you to prove your English proficiency in one of the following ways:
- TOEFL iBT*
- IELTS Academic
- A Cambridge English qualification
- A national English examination listed on your secondary school leaving certificate
- An English subject and grade on your secondary school leaving certificate that meet the university’s requirements
- Secondary education completed in English in a country or school qualification accepted by the university
- An International Baccalaureate (IB) or European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma
- Other

After graduation, you are ready to work across virtually every sector, from tech companies and start-ups to healthcare, logistics, energy and government. You could work at a wide range of national and international companies, such as the Dutch semiconductor companies ASML, NXP and Philips. Examples of roles include:
