Chemistry
The Master in Applied Molecular Sciences consists of 6 modules. These modules enrich your knowledge of organic and sustainable chemistry, and data analysis, to name a few. Also, you learn to plan and execute chemistry projects in various phases of applied research and product development. Parts of the curriculum are carried out at the internship placement.
Chemistry in a nutshell
The master track Chemistry is a challenging 2-year program in full-time. It consists of 6 modules and includes an extensive internship.
Modules 1-3 cover all the different aspects of applied research and product development in the chemistry sector. Modules 4-6 focus on research and managing projects. These form part of your internship. During this internship, you learn to take scientific and project management responsibilities of your own project. To achieve this level of independence, you need to have good practical skills and experience in research from the beginning.
In the first 1.5 years you work as an intern for 3 days a week. Next to that you attend classes 1 day a week (Mondays during working hours) and study 1 day a week by yourself. In the final half year, your internship increases to 5 days a week.
- ECTS transcript – If you are still completing your Bachelor’s degree, upload an ECTS transcript showing the subjects you have studied, your grades, and the number of credits awarded. Your Bachelor’s diploma must be uploaded later, as soon as you receive it.
- Bachelor’s diploma – If you have already graduated, upload your Bachelor’s diploma. A separate ECTS transcript is not required.
Note: Your Bachelor’s degree must be in the same or a related field as the Master’s programme you are applying for. The university will check whether you have completed enough relevant subjects and ECTS credits.
Important! View the full requirements on the university’s official website. Requirements may vary depending where you completed your bachelor education.
Applicants have to prove their English language skills either by an internationally recognized language test or upon previous studies. Usually English language skills can be proved by the following documents:
- TOEFL iBT*
- IELTS Academic
- A Cambridge English qualification

Apart from your bachelor certificate, we need an official transcript of all the courses you followed. Still doing your bachelor? Then send an official list of the courses and grades so far.
Lab research experience
We want to be sure the program is a good match for you professionally. And that you're a suitable candidate for an internship company. After all, they will hire you as an intern for 2 years. Therefore, you must have worked in lab research projects for at least 5 months. You need to demonstrate your experience in the design and execution of experiments and analysis of data, during or after your bachelor education program. For that reason, we ask for proof of your lab research by providing a thesis.
Our graduates find work in the biotech industry and research institutes. With this degree, you have profound knowledge of chemistry. And you have the skills to effectively manage projects. This mix of science and organizational skills makes you an ideal candidate for the following positions:
Project leader: As a Project Leader, you manage projects of at least 3 to 4 months. You communicate with colleagues to ensure the project runs smoothly. And you communicate with management and representatives of other departments on aspects like quality assurance, industry guidelines, statistics, patents and financial issues.
Researcher: As a researcher within chemistry, you'll be involved in planning and conducting experiments and analysing results. You'll usually carry out your experiments and research on your own, but you'll be part of a larger team and will share your findings and relevant information with professional colleagues.
Lab Manager: In this position you bring together your management skills and knowledge of safety and lab procedures to ensure that laboratories operate smoothly. You are responsible for all aspects of the lab, including equipment, employees, supplies, software, and documentation.
