What will you learn?
You will work with the development of mechatronic products, i.e., intelligent products that include mechanical, electronic and software-based solutions such as drones and power steering.
- The programme provides you with broad technical knowledge through basic courses in mechanics, electronics, programming, mathematics and physics.
- You will get the opportunity to specialise via electives, your internship as well as in your graduation project.
- You will be taught in mathematics, physics, mechanics, electronics, programming, power electronics, thermodynamics, mechanical engineering and much more.
How is the programme structured?
The programme consists of a combination of theoretical courses and project work. You will work a lot in project groups, where you and your fellow students will solve problems for companies through case-based work.
- The first semester focuses on learning what mechatronics is and what it takes to develop mechatronics products.
- In the second semester, you will gain an understanding of system components and their interactions.
- The third semester builds on the knowledge you have gained about mechatronics and the development of mechatronic products.
- In the fourth semester, you will gain basic knowledge about regulatory systems and how they are integrated into a product.
- In the fifth semester, you can specialise in electives while strengthening your interdisciplinary skills in an interdisciplinary project (Experts in Teams). You can also study this semester abroad.
- In the sixth semester, you will have a mandatory internship in a company. The internship can be spent in Denmark or abroad.
In the seventh and final semester, you must prepare a graduation project - often in cooperation with a company.

- Secondary School Leaving Certificate – If you have already completed Secondary School, you do not need to upload a separate transcript. Simply upload your Secondary School Leaving Certificate to the application.

UniTest – SDU requires applicants to pass an entrance test in order to successfully complete the application process. The test takes place online in March/April (the university will provide information about registration in advance). The test assesses reading comprehension and logical thinking skills.
Note:
- Engineering programmes require a high level of mathematics knowledge. If the university considers your grades too low, you may be asked to complete a special online course.
- A motivation letter is not a required document when applying to the programmes at this university.
You may not need to take IELTS or TOEFL. University usually allow you to prove your English proficiency in one of the following ways:
- English Language Hours – The total number of English language hours completed in Grades 10, 11 and 12 should be at least 210 hours (1 hour = 60 minutes), and the English grade should be at least 5 on a 10-point grading scale.

- A Cambridge English qualification
- A national English examination listed on your secondary school leaving certificate
- An English subject and grade on your secondary school leaving certificate that meet the university’s requirements

A development engineer job is the typical career starting point for the mechatronics engineer graduates. But after a few years many get the opportunity to work in a managerial capacity combined with the technical task. As an engineer you often take part in development processes across organisations, and you are involved in external cooperation with companies in Denmark and abroad. You can also continue your studies with an MSc in Mechatronics.
