Understand the relationship between mechanics, electronics, and embedded software

Do you want to develop high-tech products? Then a degree in Mechatronics might be something for you.

Smartphones, cars, and digital cameras are products that most people know how to use. But many tasks need to be performed before having a finished product in hand. It requires engineers who understand the connection between mechanics, electronics, and software - namely Mechatronics engineers.

What will I learn?

The programme allows you to develop high-tech products. Through project work, you gain competencies in many areas of product development, including technical design, production, and project management. This combination prepares you for tasks within technical product development and later also as a team leader in a development department. During the programme, you will have the opportunity to specialise in one of the three subject areas (mechanics, electronics, or embedded systems) via electives and your bachelor project.

How is the programme structured?

The programme consists of a combination of theoretical courses and practical project work. Each semester is based on a main theme, which becomes the starting point for the semester's theory and project work.
The first semester focuses on learning what mechatronics is and what it takes to develop mechatronics products. In the second semester, you will gain an understanding of the system in general, as well as knowledge of the system components and their interactions. In the third semester, you will build on the knowledge you have gained about mechatronics and the development of mechatronic products. In the fourth semester, you will gain basic knowledge about regulatory systems and how they are integrated into a product. In the fifth semester, you can specialise in electives while strengthening your interdisciplinary skills in an interdisciplinary project (Experts in Teams). You can also study this semester abroad. In the sixth semester, you write your bachelor project, based on all your knowledge from the previous semesters.

  • Transcript of Records – If you have not yet completed Secondary School, you must upload a transcript showing your current grades. You can find the transcript template here.
  • Secondary School Leaving Certificate – If you have already completed Secondary School, you do not need to upload a separate transcript. Simply upload your Secondary School Leaving Certificate to the application.

UniTest – SDU requires applicants to pass an entrance test in order to successfully complete the application process. The test takes place online in March/April (the university will provide information about registration in advance). The test assesses reading comprehension and logical thinking skills.

 

Note: 

  • Engineering programmes require a high level of mathematics knowledge. If the university considers your grades too low, you may be asked to complete a special online course.
  • A motivation letter is not a required document when applying to the programmes at this university.

 

English language requirements

You may not need to take IELTS or TOEFL. University usually allow you to prove your English proficiency in one of the following ways:

  • English Language Hours – The total number of English language hours completed in Grades 10, 11 and 12 should be at least 210 hours (1 hour = 60 minutes), and the English grade should be at least 5 on a 10-point grading scale.
  • TOEFL iBT*
  • IELTS Academic
  • A Cambridge English qualification
  • A national English examination listed on your secondary school leaving certificate
  • An English subject and grade on your secondary school leaving certificate that meet the university’s requirements
  • Secondary education completed in English in a country or school qualification accepted by the university
  • An International Baccalaureate (IB) or European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma
  • Other

With a degree in Mechatronics you will have a range of job opportunities – in Denmark and abroad. Among other things, you could set up your own company or be employed as a development engineer, project manager or researcher.

The bachelor's programme lasts three years, after which you take the two-year master's programme to become achieve a MSc in Engineering. In the master's programme, you have the opportunity to choose between two profiles: Embedded Systems or Cyber Physical Systems.

You are qualified for jobs as, for example:
